The purpose of the Ritual is to offer the candidates the opportunity to obligate themselves as per the terms defined and traditionally preserved since 1925. The Ritual, in principle, addresses the new graduates and those who are at the completion of their studies. However, any candidate answering the criteria is eligible for the obligation. Canadian citizenship is not compulsory and the engineering education does not have to have been taken at a Canadian institution.
This opportunity is thus offered to new graduates as well as engineers already practising.
The Obligation is not compulsory, but results from the candidate’s own and personal choice.
As Trustee and Administrator of The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer, Camp 2 of Montreal has the responsibility of the Obligation Ceremonies for the following Faculties / Schools of Engineering:
- Ecole Polytechnique
- Ecole de technologie supérieure
- McGill University
- Concordia University
- Université of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue (UQAT)
- Université of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM)
Camp 2 of Montreal is also responsible to verify and determined the admissibility of candidates.
Furthermore, Camp is responsible for the replacement of iron rings.
