This section of the Iron Ring website is dedicated specifically to Camp 2 of Montreal. To contact other Camps in Canada, please use the website www.ironring.ca
Q: I've lost my iron ring. What is the process to get it replaced?
Download the form "Ring Replacement Form" and print it. Replacements will not be processed without payment, so please do not fill the form out and email it back. The cost to replace the iron ring is 15.00 $ CAN. Please note that ONLY those Engineers who participated in a ceremony and have a copy of their original Obligation Certificate, may have their ring replaced.
Q: I'm not sure I have my original Obligation Certificate. Will the small oath card, my Professional Engineer membership, or a copy of my degree suffice?
No. The Obligation Certificate would have been granted to you after the ceremony, and will be an approximate size of 8.5 x 11 and titled "The Ritual of the Calling of An Engineer". It will be signed by the Camp Secretary, yourself, and will hold your unique Obligation Number. If you have lost your Certificate and would like to have it replaced, please contact your Camp. Only your original Camp can replace your Obligation Certificate. This Obligation Number is required as proof that you attended the ceremony, therefore, the oath card, the PE membership, or a copy of your degree cannot make you obtain the replacement of your iron ring.
Q: I would like to apply for the Obligation Ceremony and to get an Iron Ring. How do I do this?
If you have completed your undergraduate degree outside of Canada, and are interested in applying for the Iron Ring Ceremony, you must attend the Senior Ceremony. Please download the form "Request for Obligation" and print it. This will outline the application process.
If you have completed your undergraduate degree in a Canadian university, but somehow failed to attend your ceremony, please contact the undergraduate counselor for your discipline, and ask him to provide you with a formal letter, indicating that you are eligible to attend the ceremony. This letter should be sent to our office with a covering note requesting attendance at the next Iron Ring Ceremony. Please make sure to include your full contact information, including your telephone number and your e-mail address.
Q: When is the deadline to apply for the Obligation Ceremony?
Your application package, complete with the requested material must be submitted before September 15 for the Autumn Ceremonies and before January 15 for the Winter Ceremonies.
Q: When does the ceremony take place?
The ceremonies take place twice a year. Consult the Actualities board for the details.
Q: Who can attend the Ritual Ceremony as a guest?
At McGill University: Due to the nature of the ceremony and the limited space available, only Obligated Engineers with an iron ring and three years experience may attend the Ceremony as sponsor. Family members may not attend, unless they are obligated engineers, and are wearing their iron ring at the day of the ceremony. Only one guest per attendee is permitted due to space limitations.
Other Universities / Schools: Guests (Relatives, spouses, friends, professors), and sponsors may attend the Ceremony. The number of guests is determined by the number of free places in the room; check with the University / School representative to obtain that information (see contact section)
Q: Where are the ceremonies held?
Ceremonies are held in different places year after year. Verify the actualities board for the dates and the University / School representative for the places.
Q: Can I replace someone's Iron Ring for them as a surprise?
No. Only an obligated Engineer may replace his/her own ring.
Q: Can I send someone to pick up my Iron Ring?
We generally discourage people from doing so. However, if you fill out the replacement iron ring form, and provide us with a formal letter, indicating the name of the person who will be picking up your ring, your ring will be replaced for you at one of the contact specified in the "Contact Section"
Q: How do I exchange my ring?
There is no charge to exchange an iron ring if it's in good condition and it's done within one (1) month of an Obligation Ceremony. Complete and submit the Iron Ring Replacement Form to the appropriate contact (see Contact Section). After that delay, or if damaged, you must pay Can 15.00$ for a new iron ring.
Q: I would like to exchange my ring, but I want to keep my old ring. Can I do that?
The camp does not allow obligated engineers to own more than one ring. If you would like to exchange your ring, you must relinquish the one that you have.
Q: I don't know my size, do you have it on record?
We do not have the ring size from each year on record, and we do not rely on the ones we have, as ring sizes can change frequently. By meeting one of the representative contact listed in the Contact Section, we can size your finger right away. Otherwise, please go to a jewelry store and ask them to size your finger (there should not be a charge).
